Beating Depression With the Help of Exercises

It is not a new concept that exercise can function as an antidote to depression and anxiety. This notion was implemented by doctors in mental hospitals of Scotland in the 18th century for treating patients who were suffering from mental problems. They prescribed the patients to perform heavy work in farms as a medicine for curing their mental condition. This move displayed marked improvement in their behavior and mood.

Today, doctors have discovered remarkable link between exercises and behavior. Some of these studies are really fascinating. All studies have concluded that exercise is clearly associated with the mental health of a person.

The first thing that happens with exercise is that the blood pressure of the person is lowered to a normal level. This will result in having a positive mood in them. For achieving good results, people are to perform simple exercises like walking, swimming, bicycling, jogging, or weight lifting for 30 minutes at a time. This should be done at least 4 times a week for achieving best results. Those who regularly exercise are more flexible and don't catch any diseases easily. If they are to make a move in their body in an unusual position there is no problems in performing that. Their joints and muscles will be strong enough to withstand a great deal of pressure.

A muscle which is regularly exercised will recover faster from any pain. A person who doesn't exercise regularly will find it more difficult to recover from any work done unexpectedly. Exercises can fight away one of the greatest problems that is being faced by our families, i.e. stress. People are too busy to sit together and talk for a while. These little things are very important for our living and we are losing it in our pursuit of money and material possession.

Exercise is the best relaxation technique for turning off your stress and for clearing your mind. One of the signs of stress is shallow breathing. Therefore the first aid for treating stress is to take deep and slow breaths. This will trigger a relaxation response in your mind. Stress comes from the interaction of our minds and physical body; therefore it is better to find some pleasant thoughts for clearing your mind. Taking a small walk at this juncture will help us concentrate better and fills us with new energy. Muscles are something which we will loose if we are not using it regularly.
